چکیده

Direct Aerosol Radiative Forcing (DARF) characterizes aerosol influences on the radiative energy budget due to scattering and absorption of solar radiation, while clear uncertainties remain in both global regional DARF estimations differences properties time periods considered. Through a multidataset strategy, this study systematically investigates DARFs over Beijing, China, between 2001 2020. Ground-based observations from AERONET are used as “references”, two satellite-based datasets (MODIS MISR), atmospheric reanalysis (MERRA-2) numerical modeling (WRF-CMAQ) We unify simulations for ensure fair intercomparison among different datasets. Fortunately, amount at locations Beijing can well represent those entire city region, average top atmosphere (TOA) past twenty years is found be ~ ?36 W/m2 Beijing. The relative sources range approximately ?40% 10%, efficiencies (DARFEs) similar (besides MISR). correlation coefficients MERRA-2 results ~0.75, MODIS MISR result with 0.80. However, agreement TOA caused by smaller AOD larger DARFE. based AERONET, 10% 20%. For simulations, WRF-CMAQ agree reasonably observation-based results, their magnitudes merely about one-third results. Clear given types indicate that direct forcings cannot neglected, more efforts still needed improve our understanding them.

Spatially refined aerosol direct radiative forcing efficiencies.

Global aerosol direct radiative forcing (DRF) is an important metric for assessing potential climate impacts of future emissions changes. However, the radiative consequences of emissions perturbations are not readily quantified nor well understood at the level of detail necessary to assess realistic policy options. To address this challenge, here we show how adjoint model sensitivities can be u...

Direct SW aerosol radiative forcing over Portugal

The estimation of radiative forcing due to desert dust and forest fires aerosols is a very important issue since these particles are very efficient at scattering and absorbing both short and longwave radiation. In this work, the evaluation of the aerosol radiative forcing at the top of the atmosphere over the south of Portugal is made, particularly in 5 the regions ofÉvora and of Cabo da Roca. ...

Direct radiative forcing of anthropogenic organic aerosol

[1] This study simulates the direct radiative forcing of organic aerosol using the GFDL AM2 GCM. The aerosol climatology is provided by the MOZART chemical transport model (CTM). The approach to calculating aerosol optical properties explicitly considers relative humidity–dependent hygroscopic growth by employing a functional group– based thermodynamic model, and makes use of the size distribut...

Aerosol absorption and radiative forcing

We present a comprehensive examination of aerosol absorption with a focus on evaluating the sensitivity of the global distribution of aerosol absorption to key uncertainties in the process representation. For this purpose we extended the comprehensive aerosol-climate model ECHAM5HAM by effective medium approximations for the calculation of aerosol effective refractive indices, updated black car...
